Hell freezing over: praise for Tebow in Georgia

    I'm getting worried.
A die-hard Georgia fan was actually complimenting Tim Tebow the other day.
Thankfully, sitting down when such shockers are expressed is better than falling down.
Tebow was fairly sharp in his NFL debut, albeit in second-half preseason action against backups.
Of course, he's very much the backup, so the field was even.

He got a little carried away and took a huge pop on a touchdown run, but otherwise showed why, well, he's pretty high up on all the SEC passing lists.
See, if you can pass and succeed in the SEC for three years, you have a chance in the NFL, flaws or not.
But boy, the wounds of him being a good player and good person still sting those he beat.

LOUGHDMOUTHINGS
The NCAA talked with Rich Rodriguez for seven hours about his impersonations of Lou "leave 'em on probation" Holtz.
    Seven.
So who was overseeing the after-hours practices? ...
Just because the right ruling was made in the PGA Championship doesn't mean the rule doesn't need addressing.
Dustin Johnson thought he was swinging from a kind of dirty sandy area. Normal people thought it was a kind of dirty sandy area.
Turns out it was a bunker, one of an absurd 1,000 or so – is an egg-timer a bunker at Whistling Straits? – on the course.
Can't recall the last time I saw fans walk across bunkers.
And then Johnson "grounded his club." Basically, his club touched the ground in the vicinity of the ball. That was it. For less than a second.
Didn't affect the lie on this "hazard" or improve his situation. His club touched the ground.
Rules are rules. Many rules are pretty stupid. ...
From Dwight Perry of the Seattle times on the RichRod-NCAA chat:
“To no one’s surprise, the meeting went long.”
An Arkansas sports-radio host was fired for wearing a Florida cap to a Razorback football press conference.
Bobby Petrino got his britches in a wad: ""And that will be the last question I answer with that hat on."
Yes, to offend Petrino's sensibilities regarding professionalism and maturity is unforgivable.
A CBS Sports columnist ripped Arkansas fans for their barrage to the radio station.
"For you idiots? I have all the time in the world. Because you people are wrong, and you're not just wrong. You're scary. ...
"But fired? You backward folks got her fired? People don't act this way.
"You crept right up to the line of acceptable fan behavior, hopped into your monster truck and drove over that line and into the realm of fanaticism. And then you spun out doughnuts in the Arkansas end zone. ..."

Am one of many who didn't realize that "one of (Petrino's biggest rivals is Florida". From when. His one year so far in the SEC? His career in Louisville? His months with the Falcons.
And, uh, isn't Florida almost a rival for most everybody, courtesy of the wins and occasional arrogance?)
Nevertheless, Alabama fans are hacked off. Topping the lineup of the delusional and scary fanbases has always been their job. ...
Will not mention that flighty quarterback's name until we go a full NFL season without his butt on the field. ...
The Nationals and top draftee and Scott Boras client Bryce Harper reached a last-minute deal. Shocking.
    Whoopdedoo. ...
And these same people sniping at Johnson for "not reading those 97 little words" complain about the fine print on their credit card agreements.
The survey of the players who didn't read the whole thing would probably show most didn't, and the average reaction to the situation was likely: "Wow, I didn't know that." ...
Alex Rodriguez finally hit that 600th home run, which caught the eye of comedian Argus Hamilton, who pondered where it landed:
“Inside Monument Park, right between the two plaques honoring Jose Canseco and Lance Armstrong." …
September will be fun for baseball fans. We have pennant races in four of six divisions.
Three teams are alive in the AL East, and there are a few divisions that are maybe two weeks away from becoming better races or all but done.
The largest margin between first and second is eight games in the AL West, where Texas is the only team over .500. …
This was originally to be posted a few days ago, but the original draft melted. ...
Ah, midseason anger in a scrimmage. Apparently Wilcox County and Fitzgerald got into it after their meeting recently when the postgame handshake became something of a brawl when, according to reports, words were exchanged between coaching staffs. It’s not terribly shocking, that last part.
Brilliance: GHSA boss Ralph Swearngin told the AJC that there would probably be no discipline because it was just a practice, which means, of course, kids and coaches can let ‘er rip if it’s not a game.
Naturally, some of the idiots on hand jumped from the stands to get it into it.
WALB-TV in Albany had video taken by a player’s mother, which really showed one thing:
People need to have really good cameras on hand when shooting from the stands (hmm, maybe the phrase “shooting from the stands” isn’t a good one). And keep those hands steady.
Update: The AJC reports the GHSA has fined both schools and put them on double secret, er, "severe warning status." In the case of an actual brawl, you would have been advised, eh, never mind. …
Despite constant media attempts to lift golf's presence for more free golf at local course, the PGA Championship did not slow the Earth's spin on its axis.
Early reports indicated good numbers, but officially, the ratings were down 33 percent. Nielsen reports that the prime-time part of the playoff broadcast attracted about 10 million viewers.
Oddly, PGA.com drew 4.8 million clicks for live and taped video. Why would anybody watch a live event on the computer if a TV is nearby?
TNT erased Law & Order for like seven hours a day of early coverage. Then the fawning lapdogs at CBS took over, again showing the ability to broadcast golf and whisper sweet nothings into the ears of golf types.
What will coverage be like when Tiger's officially gone? ...
Brad Dickson of the Omaha (Neb.) World-Herald reports that Dennis Rodman wasn't seriously hurt after an SUV he was riding in flipped.
"Rodman was reported to be 'stable,' which I believe is a first."
